From 5 to 28 November 2026, London painter Alejandro F Hernandez (alexgringo) shows his solo exhibition, The Regular House Guests, at Meykade, a Persian-inspired cafe and wine bar at 101 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RH. The show is part of the Visual Artists Association's OpenSpaces 2026, a global, artist-led art trail that turns everyday spaces into places for art.
Three oil paintings of animals who behave as though the place belongs to them hang alongside the coffee, the wine and the conversation.
The paintings
The Curious Case of the Sphynx (oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm). One blue eye, one green, a fur collar and a flowered jacket. Entirely at ease, and watching you.

Why animals
"I'm an oil painter," says Alejandro. "I translate personal experiences into paintings using animals, to spark questions and conversations."
Some of his animals wear human clothes and sit comfortably in them, playful on the surface. Others begin with the feeling a particular animal gave him, drawn from its owner's stories or from time spent with it.
About the artist
Alejandro was born and raised in the UK to Colombian parents, and studied graphic design and illustration in Colombia. After two decades as a graphic designer and photographer, he returned to the canvas in 2021. His oil and acrylic paintings explore identity, culture and the human condition. He is a member of the Visual Artists Association.
