Overcoming the loss of a pet with Art

Overcoming the loss of a pet isn’t an easy task. This Tiny Dog Samson, Sammy for short stole our hearts when we first set eyes on him.

Samson was more than just a pet dog to me; he was a loyal companion who was always there for me through thick and thin. His wagging tail and slobbery kisses could brighten even the darkest days. Sadly, Samson is no longer with us, but his memory lives on through a painting I made in his honour. In this post, I'll share a funny anecdote about Samson and explain how I used oil paints to capture his spirit in my artwork. Samson was a small Pekingese and Pomeranian mix breed dog, but don't let his size fool you. Despite being tiny by nature, Samson had a big personality and a contagious love for life. He was a fury friend with a heart that was anything but small.

I was lucky enough to have him as my companion for several years; during that time, he proved to be a true friend. He was there for me through the most challenging times, always ready to offer a wag of his tail and a lick on the hand. His love and devotion knew no bounds, and he was always eager to show it.

The Tiny Golden Fox

It was suspected that Samson was a peek-A-pom. We never did find out, but with those looks, it didn’t even matter anymore.

To capture Samson's spirit in my painting, I decided to use oil paints. The process of creating the artwork was emotional, and each brush stroke was a reflection of the love I had for Samson. I began with a rough sketch of his portrait and then used a layering technique to build up the colours and textures. I used warm tones to convey his friendly nature and darker tones in the background to compliment his golden coat, and I exaggerated his gesture slightly to capture his curious and adventurous spirit and the movement and energy that he brought into our lives.

Samson may be gone, but his memory lives on through the painting I made in his honour. The process of creating the artwork was cathartic, and it allowed me to express my emotions and capture Samson's spirit in a tangible way. He was a dog who was always there for me through the good times and the bad, and I'm grateful for the memories we shared. I hope this post has given you a glimpse into Samson's personality and the impact he had on my life. If you have a pet that you love, take a moment to appreciate them and the joy they bring to your life.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. You will always be remembered and loved."
